1. General information
T he main goal is to initiate the student in the study of the construction processes that have been involved in architecture throughout history and, thus, to acquire the general concept of the discipline. This entails knowing the historical evolution of the different construction systems, as well as their location in their chronological period, and identifying the construction elements and their components, being able to interpret their mission and behavior, for which the sense of observationwill be developed , as well as that of logical reasoning.
These approaches and goals are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda of United Nations (https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/es/), in particular, with objectives 4.4, 4.7 and 11.4.
2. Learning results
The student, at the end of the subject, will have knowledge of the historical evolution of the construction techniques and elements and the structural systems that have given rise to the stylistic forms and traditional construction systems
Be able to identify and differentiate, within the different constructive cultures and their chronology, the structural systems, constructive systems and typologies of buildings.
Have acquired the ability to analyse, understand and evaluate the reasons for the constructive solutions adopted in a building and its global understanding.
Be able to handle related texts and to discern their values and contents.
They will have a solid cultural base, always necessary and essential for the further development of studies related to historical constructions
The student will have become familiar with the technical language of the discipline and the graphic expression of constructive elements framed in each historical period.
Develop the sense of observation, as well as the sense of logical reasoning to reach the understanding and resolution of constructive problems in the architecture of the past.

- Practical work and problem solving in the classroom
- Semi-autonomous tutored practical assignments
- Practical field classes/ visits
-Assessment tests.
- Tutoring. Face-to-face (at the department) or virtual (via Moodle or e-mail).
- Personal work without attendance

-Individual activities in class: Active participation in class will be assessed, as well as oral expression when exposing in public and their ability to express themselves in writing and in the drawings to be developed in the work and tests evaluative. 5% of the grade.
-Practical work in the classroom or semi-autonomous. Individuals or groups. We work on the identification of elements constructive, their mission and behavior through practical questions. Work must be handed in on the dates set by the teacher. 35% of the grade.
-Written evaluative tests: There will be several tests spread throughout the semester that will raise questions theoretical or practical. 60% of the grade.
Each of the parts will be assessed out of 10 points, and it will be necessary to obtain a minimum grade of 4 in each part in order for to average with the rest. The subject will be passed with an average grade equal to or higher than 5.
2. Non-attendance assessment system:
Based on a single final written test, which will include theoretical or practical questions similar to those posed in the face-to-face assessment. Minimum grade of 5.
